Alentejo, which accounts for almost a third of Portugal's total area, is a major wine-producing region, characterised by its organoleptic characteristics, in which national and regional grape varieties have been favoured by the ‘magic’ of winemakers/producers, who generally produce high-quality wines capable of projecting the region internally and internationally, with an image of excellence that extends to its 14 geographical indication (GI) designations and 8 DOC (protected designation of origin) wine sub-regions.
The coincidence in time of the restructuring of the wine sector in the Alentejo, as well as the emergence of new producers, has led to the region being referred to by some, as ‘the new world’ of wine in Portugal.
Covering an area of 56,000.00 ha, the Serra de São Mamede Natural Park has a highly diverse landscape mosaic resulting from its altitude, particular climatic conditions and different geological substrates. Visually, it reveals itself as a mountainous massif crowned by quartzite ridges, surrounded by the undulation of the peneplain.
It is home to a diversity of habitats and flora representative of Atlantic and Mediterranean influences, attested to by unique landscapes. This Natural Park is humanised, both by the countless testimonies of the past and by the existing settlements that dot the landscapes of the municipalities of Portalegre, Marvão, Castelo de Vide and Arronches.
It is in this unique territory that our 5 vineyards are located, where nature follows its cycle and lives at its own pace.
Our vineyards are located in the Portalegre sub-region, which is characterized by its originality and difference from the other seven sub-regions of the Alentejo.
Here, we benefit from the climate moderated by the altitude, cooler and wetter than the heat of the southern plains, contributing to the creation of fresh, mineral, elegant, powerful and long-lived wines.
These wine-growing plots have their own identity, whether due to the nature of the granite and schist soils, their mosaic of vineyards, the influence of the altitude or the living sculptural monuments corresponding to the vines.
The wines are intense, complex, fresh and full of history.
