The Winery

Vineyards monitored throughout the year.

The grapes and wines produced come from 5 vineyards located around the peak of the São Mamede mountain range, at 1,025.00 metres. The vineyards range in altitude from 480.00 metres to 680.00 metres, three of which are in the municipality of Portalegre, in the parish of Reguengo and the parish of São Lourenço / Sé. These were planted in 2002. The remaining two vineyards are part of the parish of São Salvador da Aramenha, located in the municipality of Marvão, and were planted in 1983 and 2002.

This mosaic, totalling around 16 hectares, corresponds to our open-air, integrated production area and is perfectly integrated into the landscape by the surrounding chestnut groves, olive groves and cork oak forests. It is in this delicate and dynamic balance that this wine-growing heritage, planted on dry land, gives the grapes and consequently its wines their distinctive characteristics of the Portalegre sub-region in the south of Portugal.

In our 5 Places we find the grape varieties Aragonez, Alicante Bouschet, Fernão Pires, Castelão, Bical, Malvasia Fina and Tamarez. The first two predominate over the rest. Bouschet, Fernão Pires, Castelão, Bical, Malvasia Fina e Tamarez. As duas primeiras têm dominância relativamente às restantes.

The Terroir

conferred by the altitude near the peak of the Serra de São Mamede, as well as by the combination of values that nature has made a point of bringing together in these parts of the Alto Alentejo. terroir especial conferido pela altitude da proximidade do pico da Serra de São Mamede, assim como, pela congregação de valores que a natureza fez questão de juntar, nestes lugares do Alto Alentejo.

While our vineyards in the municipality of Portalegre are marked by the soil and climate characteristics of the Reguengo and Covões valleys, the remaining vineyards in the municipality of Marvão are supported by one of the plateaus in this region. The 5 Places have an average altitude of 586.00 metres and are characterised by a continental mediterranean climate, moderated by altitude, with hot, dry summers and cold, wet winters.

The soil is also mediterranean and granitic.

Sustainability

Our vineyards are certified for Integrated Production and are part of the Alentejo Wine Sustainability Program. We are committed to producing high quality wines with the least possible impact on the environment.

Sustainability is not a destination, but a journey of continuous innovation, adaptation and commitment.

Como empresa familiar, temos consciência de que a nossa capacidade produtiva de uva e de vinho, dependerá de um ecossistema económico, ambientalmente e socialmente saudável, assim como, de um clima estável.

We are supported by the resilience and commitment of our local employees, who have a source of sustenance and encouragement in this activity. In addition, we rely on the help of insects and auxiliary animals, which are crucial to the sustainable development of the vineyard.

Our work is therefore a long-term commitment to local communities, nature and its biodiversity.

100% Natural Cork

The use of 100% natural, totally biodegradable, renewable and recyclable cork stoppers, which come from Portuguese cork oak forests.

Rainfed Production

All of our vineyards are dry-farmed, which on the one hand gives us more authentic fruit and wines, and on the other hand ensures that the plants adapt to the dryness, becoming more resilient, seeking water at depth and having greater longevity. With this principle, we value the plant's normal cycle and the farm's water resources.

Four-legged brushcutters and fertilisers

The use of sheep in the vineyard has several benefits, whether it's for feeding the livestock by mowing, or by increasing the fertility and biodiversity of the understory throughout its length.

Renewable Energy

We privilege renewable energies as a source of energy for our farm and existing buildings.

Agricultural Practices

We work with and respect nature in order to achieve excellent products.

To this purpose, we monitor the vineyards throughout their growing cycle, through continuous care of the soil, attention to each vine, monitoring of temperatures (especially frosts and high peaks), sampling, manual harvesting, selection of bunches and fruit.

Wines made with time, on a small scale, to the rhythm of nature. A combination of people, vineyards and landscape.
